From the Wednesday, September 30 Hot Rod Magazine daily(?) blog. This was from an article therein on the first NHRA National Drag races in Great Bend, Kansas.

The caption to this particular photo said, "Participants line up to enter the races."

If you look closely, you can see what appears to be numbers or other lettering on the [what is probably] the Commander Starlight Coupe race car. And check out the '55 right C-body in front of it. (The thud you just felt from the middle of Nebraska was cousin George Krem fainting after considering the weight of the bumper over-riders on the rear of the Starlight coupe.)

The 1955 Packard 400 2-door hardtop in this photo was a product of The Studebaker-Packard Corporation and was brand new, a current-year-model car! BP

I know this photo of the 1962 Studebaker Lark has been posted here before (once by me) but you have probably never read an evaluation of the car by someone who was forced to drive one. Attached is a memo written by my father when he was a young troop when the ISP was evaluating the car. Photo courtesy of the Indiana State Police Museum.

Thanks for posting the evaluation document on the '62 ISP Marshal. I had no idea it attracted attention the wrong way as per its (lack of) 'prestige'.

It would be interesting to compare any documention by the various PD's for the 20 specially made 1964 Marshals with R1 engines in the performance & handling department as there were a lot of improvements in them. Unfortunately, before the evaluation period was over, Studebaker announced they were closing the South Bend plant with no chance of any jurisdicion being able to order a Marshal. Therefore, no such letters of evaluation may have ever been sumbitted.

The Phoenix Police Museum also has one of their 1962 Marshals fully restored on display, so its great to see at least two of them preserved. https://forum.studebakerdriversclub....akes-its-debut
