  • It is almost hard to believe that what from this view looks to be a fairly complete '52 hardtop would be put to rest like this.

    • That might be a '55-'56 Packard on the far end.

      • That '52 Starliner is the oldest car in the photo, which probably accounts for its misfortune. BP

You can make out the rust on the Studebakers left front fender in this grainy photo. The right fender is prolly the same, not to mention the floor boards.

In the 1950/60's, some auto makers paid new car dealers to junk older trade ins.

1962: I bought an all original 1949 Cadillac convertible (black w/red leather interior) w/50K on the clock from the back row of Santa Monica Ford's used car lot for 100 bucks.

I woulda bought this...if I had the money: 1961: Mae West's 1931 J Duesenberg Murphy Town Car was for sale on a Hollywood used cars lot: 500 bucks!

                • Hello,

I have not been keeping up on the pictures, but I think this one hasn't been posted yet:

This shot was taken about 35 miles away from where I live. This is the beautiful Siskiyou Summit located near Medford, Oregon.

                  • This may be one of my favorite vintage Studebaker photos ever. This is at the Aztec Speedway in Aztec, New Mexico in 1953.

That must be the old road before I-5 was built. Note, no guard rails to speak of. I live in Dundee, Oregon and will be heading south to California to visit my dad and brother in June. I should see if the old road is still there. It might make for a more interesting drive. The WPA American States book about Oregon compiled in 1942 mentions this road.

                      • The license plates appear to be 1947 California plates.

I believe you might be right about that.

                            • Nox; By the hood ornament, it looks to be a 55 or 56 Chevy.
