The -51 in #6578 is a Danish driving-school's car & I think the "K" on the numberplate indicates København.

Joe, that's the 1964 Yankee 300 stock car race on the Indianapolis Raceway Park road course. I was there!
We've discussed the car and the experience in several previous threads. (I'm sure Craig Parslow will have them pulled up and linked before I've posted this!)

It supposedly had a genuine R3 in it, and I believe it did. It kind of held its own in the race, but couldn't corner as well as some of the carefully-set-up big cars. Too, the big-inch engines had grunt right out of the corners, whereas the R3 had to spool up to develop its full power. I'm not sure if he finished the race and if he did, I don't know where he placed.
I wish I knew more particulars, but there's no sense making things up, so I'll stop with having shared what little I remember about the car and/or that race. I vividly remember watching it, though!BP

Regarding the 1964 Hawk which was shown racing in Indianapolis Raceway Park. For those of you who subscribed to the old Jet Thrust News newsletter, this car and it's driver, Dick Passwater, was featured in issue #15 & #16 (they are available on-line). The car was 64V-1005, and was one of the cars taken to Bonneville by the Granatelli's (the #5 car, per the article). Again, per the article, when raced at Bonneville, it as a R3, but when sold to Dick, it contained a R2.
As Bob P. observed, Dick Passwater stated the car was fast down the straights, but was hard to handle in the turns. For '65, Dick pulled the tired R2 and dropped in a Pontiac engineput Stude valvecovers on it, and went racing. After the '65 season, he sold it to a man in Texas, who he heard wrecked it.

Dave Lester: What was the convertible/roadster that you posted in #6572? I think I see right hand drive on the roadster and foreign license plates on the Studebaker.
