  • A new class at SDC Meets

A new class needs to be started at meets for the Beaterbakers. Awards will be given out to the best of the worst.

John McCall was putting in new spark plugs in his '65, he pulled in running on 6 or 7 cylinders, blown out mufflers, and 2 missing headlights, due to a tire blow out on the way to SB. And Dresbach was busy trying to keep the '40 in one piece.

Excellent thought. It is these guys that keep "Drivers" in the SDC!

I had a Wagoneer like that. At night, when it was quiet, you could stand next to it in the driveway and hear it coming apart.

I have been to several local shows where they had a "Best Unfinished" class.

I miss the old spring meet that the North and South Carolina chapters held a t Myrtle Beach years ago. My old beater GT Hawk was once awarded the "Most original chrome" award. That meant that it had more pitted, flaking, and rust spots than any other car at the meet. I can't remember who won "the most J.C. Whitney Parts On One Car" award.

                Those were fun times!

That is what we need, IMHO, a lot more fun at car shows!

                      Matt,

That is often called a 'Pleasure Class' at a Zone Meet. I've won a few of those with that turquoise '65 Commander I had in South Bend in 2007.

Would those cars be called "tweeners" meaing they are between the best of the best and the worst of the worst?

                          Anne,

My almost three year old LOVES Gus! In the past I'd even gone and printed pictures from the forum to put up on the bulletin board in his room.

Hmmm, I should pull the back seat out of the '63 so it's "unfinished". I could be looking at a class that I have a chance of winning in!!

Yeah, the headlight rim on Ely was falling off. When I got the rim off the screws were sitting inside on the bottom!
Actually I would like to actually see a class like this formed. We have the show car, and they want to have this "survivor" class, but I like the idea of combining the best of both. Ely is a "survivor" to a point, but everybody who has owned him has left their own mark on him, and that's not original from the factory. Maybe Matt and I can start this "run what ya brung" class for these driver cars. I think that would encourage bringing EVERYTHING to a meet.

For "Best Unfinished" you would first need to have STARTED something! I like the "Best Driver" category. Whatever you do, PLEASE do not call it the "Best RAT _whatever_ CLASS". ugh. Let them have dignity as they are to be admired just as much as a restored Studebaker. Considering that Chris' is 72 year's old Studebaker, that is something to be respected! Drive it like you mean it!
