  • A lot of station wagons at the supermarket is like SUVs today. Besides a lot of Ford wagons, there are three Chrysler product wagons parked together (birds of a feather flock together), few GM wagons and a nice 1957 Mercury wagon at the front of the picture.

Perhaps my picture is too small for me to tell, but it appears to be a 1960, not 1961, to me. The 1960 tail lights go to the top of the fin. The 1961 tail lights are only in the lower portion of the fins.

That Hawk in the lot reminds me of when I take my Acura coupe to a supermarket. It stands out among all of the SUVs, crossovers & pickups.

Not on the 1961 DeSoto. The taillights were on the fin and backup lights were in the same location as Chrysler's taillights for that year.

I only see one pickup truck (not like today). The newest American car that I notice is a 1962 Plymouth or Dodge. I do not know enough about most foreign cars to know if any of them in the lot are as new.

I agree that 1961 DeSoto taillights were on the fin, but they were only on the lower one-third to one-half of the fin. For 1960, they were the whole height of the fin. Chrysler taillights were in the fin for 1960 and not in the fin for 1961.

EDIT: The rear bumper appears more like a 1961 than a 1960. The picture is probably just too small for me to get a correct assessment.

              • The -62 MoPar is a Dodge, not a Plymouth & there's a -62 Valiant wagon there too.

                  • It's a 1961 Desoto. The chrome line extends the full body lenght. Also the taillights are in the fins-note the right side partially fills the space

                      • Yes Christophe, I also noticed those & thought the Fiat would probably also be quite new by then as having that design at the rear body.

                              • I'm happy that there's my 2:nd fav US cars in that picture; the -62 Chrysler New Port 4d, just like the one I owned for some years & consider one of the best cars I ever had, & the 2 Valiants.
Not enough Studebaker thou, but I reckon that's as usual...
