I noticed that too. In fact, I copied the pic and pasted into another program to enhance the picture for a closer examination. It almost looks like a front bumper from a T-cab truck. However, we know this pic predates T-cabs. It looks like the owner of this truck has truly made it "his own." That side mount spare seems to be hung up there without an altered rear fender. In fact, it looks like it could possibly interfere with the passenger side door.

I wonder what vehicle the bumper came from. It sure looks like a bumper off the front of some vehicle, but not quite any offered by Studebaker that would be contemporary to the period this picture was taken.

Apropos of the discussion of the rear bumper's origin, take a look at that early, experimental tailgate air deflector...common on trucks today, where they are designed into the top of the tailgate for good aerodynamics. That guy was 'way ahead of his time!
