    • The sign was between Main and Lafitte streets in South Bend. Across the street, South, of the old Studebaker National Museum.

              • I know it's far from the America that we know and love, but I thought this was interesting. Che Guevara driving a Studebaker, with his second wife, Aleida March, following their wedding on June 2, 1959.

I don't know how the lighting was set up like it was in this picture. If it had been a flash I would have thought there would have been some reflection in the car's finish. Maybe there was a special option in 1959 that included extra bright dash lighting.....

                          • Photo in 4432 was definitely taken with a flash. The flash was on the camera, close to the lens. Most likely an inexpensive camera. Dark colors in a B&W flash photo at night will absorb the light. You might see a "hot spot" reflection in the car's paint if a surface was perpendicular to the flash and lens. Otherwise you get a drop off or "Low Key" effect. The car interior and the faces of the people will reflect the light and show up. Since the rest of the scene is dark they seem more accentuated in the light of the flash. This is a classic B&W flash example which is actually hard to duplicate with modern digital cameras.

                            • The flash IS(!) reflecting in the chrome-trim of the windshield, especially the lower part.

                              • You are correct Nox. But not in the black or dark colored paint of the car.
