    Photo in 4432 was definitely taken with a flash. The flash was on the camera, close to the lens. Most likely an inexpensive camera. Dark colors in a B&W flash photo at night will absorb the light. You might see a "hot spot" reflection in the car's paint if a surface was perpendicular to the flash and lens. Otherwise you get a drop off or "Low Key" effect. The car interior and the faces of the people will reflect the light and show up. Since the rest of the scene is dark they seem more accentuated in the light of the flash. This is a classic B&W flash example which is actually hard to duplicate with modern digital cameras.
