There is a third option in the mix: the Lark was used as a closet for the racing uniform hanging in the back. The small hubcaps instead of the large wheel covers, black walls and just guess that it was a six instead of a V8, the Lark was owned by a young gofer for the racing team. The Ferrari emblem placed below the Studebaker script, that was used on the 1959 models may have been put on to add some panache.

Like in the movie "Alien", something powerful about to pop out of its chest?

            • Interesting art piece. The picture is way to new to fit the usual criteria for this thread though. Back when Studes were commonly in everyday pictures there was no good way to get a drivable car that low.

              • Who knew? GM also had a Flamingo reference in 1961!

From today's Old Motor is this photo and article on special 1961 General Motors show cars...including a unique 1961 Buick Electra convertible in our favorite (well, for many of us) 1961 Studebaker color, Flamingo. They even had a special Flamingo script made for the Buick's front fenders!

Just when you think you've seen everything:

Bob, Issue number 4 of Crankshaft has an article devoted to Buick Show Cars. The first car listed is the 1961 Buick Flamingo. Interesting history of that car and other Buick show cars.

Crankshaft is a great magazine. I am going to renew my subscription.

Thanks, Bob. Boy, am I embarrassed. I've got my Crankshaft Groups but hadn't gotten that far reading it!

                    Thanks for renewing. BP

                      • Now there are some strange looking vehicles (at least to us in the west). Is that a Cedric or Crown in the foreground???

If you're thinking of that truck in the foreground, going away from the camera, I wondered about that.

Are you sure it's a Studebaker? (Someone from Down Under, please respond.) BP

The shape of the top of the truck and back windshield certainly resemble “C” cab post 1954, but the bed, and tailgate area, not so much?
