  • Wow! At least 3 Studebakers in that parking lot.

    • My cousin-in-law posted 245 photos of OLD McKeesport, PA on Facebook.
I THINK Studebakers appear in eight of them.
      See if you agree.

      • RE: the first photo in #10922: Someone get the Lark Convertible away from the building fire!

I notice the cars have the PA state inspection stickers on the passenger side of the windshields. This was the way it was until around 1958.

On the Lysle Blvd. picture with the Studebaker Coupe in the foreground, I see a '58 Chevy parked across the street. But the cars still have what appear to be 1957 PA plates on them, so that Chevy must have been an early '58. Although, come to think of it, back then the PA plates for the current year were not to be put on the car until March 15 and had to be on the car by March 31. So maybe that Chevy isn't that early after all.

Great pictures. Thanks for posting them!

        • Re the McKeesport pix: I have been going to the Carlisle old car flea market for decades, and there used to an older African-American man there who always had hundreds of excellent 8x10" B&W glossies for sale. He (had?) worked as a photographer for a Pittsburgh newspaper, and was always the first on the scene of a big fire. He also covered the late night entertainment beat, so had lots of pictures of stars like Duke Ellington and Ella Fitzgerald. If he had a few frames left over on a roll of film, he would shoot cars, trains, or just ordinary street scenes. I strongly suspect he took those -- they look like his work.

          • I love the cobblestone streets and the dilapidated garage. Looks real old and funky. I would love to have some scenes like that on my train layout.

I'd love to have a peek inside that garage, and the one around the corner from it. Maybe there's a Coupe Express hiding in one of them!!

                          • Captioned as being at South Padre Island, Texas - going to guess mid-1950s. Traces of Texas Facebook page. Think it might be a “two-fer”. Aside from the obvious black '50 Champion, looks like there might be a 54 or 55 Conestoga wagon on the other side of the black Chrysler product, closest to the building.

Yep, a two-fer; definitely a Studebaker wagon, too. BP
