  • RE 8842,

If I were to guess I'd say Hebrew, wasn't there an assembly plant in Israel?

      • This red '41 Champion 3-passenger business coupe was purchased new by my dad just after he was rejected by the draft board because of high blood pressure. (It wasn't extremely high; he lived another 53 years with mostly good health!) He traded in a nearly new black 1940 Champion 3-passenger business coupe on it because he sensed that that might be his last chance to buy a new car for some time. He was right. Dad was a machinist at Bendix in South Bend at that time. He drove the Champion all through the war years and said it got 27 mpg. We drove the 50-some miles to my grandparents' farm many Sundays after church. I was born the January after dad bought the '41, and I rode home from South Bend's Epworth (now Memorial) Hospital in it. Dad wouldn't let me drive, though. <G> I barely remember the car since dad sold it to his sister shortly after the war ended; I was about five.

I'm pretty sure the man in the photo is my Dad; he was a "Ford man" and he would have been 24 years old at the time.

There's more to be said about the Champion coupe in the photo, so I'll let George post those particulars. BP

                  • I wonder if those back tires were installed to simply get the boat/trailer out of the lake once they were finished for the day...and everything in the trunk was probably floating if it was in the water for any length of time.
