I remember a number of houses from that era including a family friend's house with a window in the garage door, ranging from the South Bay area to Norwalk to the San Fernando Valley.

My grandmother always laughs when she talks about remembering back in the late '50 when AC was seen as a luxury item in cars, people driving around their small Texas town with the windows rolled up. She said if you looked closely you could tell that everyone inside looked pretty miserable - guess wanting people to think you have money has its drawbacks...

The Studebaker at the pump is either my dad's or our neighbors. Ours was light green; the other was light blue. This is Young Harris, GA.

                          • Is this really a Studebaker? If so can someone identify it for me?

                            • It could be a 1927 EU roadster. Claudia Parsons drove one of those from India back to England via Iran, Iraq, Jerusalem and North Africa in 1938 in order to avoid the war she knew was coming. Her story -and that of the Studebaker EU - is told in her book "Century Story", if you can find a copy.
