  • That S&S picture was (is still?) used to decorate the inside of the resturants here in St. Louis, MO

    • Yes, the Steak & Shake picture with the 1955 Olds pulling in and the 1961 Lark already parked, is pretty much a staple in all their restaurants. It's even on some of their Gift Cards, IIRC. BP

          • I love seeing the later Studes in photos, as in the last one, above...when their market share was declining. Sure seems like '47-52 models show up the most, but then again we are talking about six model years there!

            • I am sorry but I can't post the picture but below is a link to a picture from 'Dirty old Boston' that is a color picture of 3 Studes just outside of Harvard Square in Cambridge, MA. One is a truck 1 ton stake body.

As a kid I thought my father was the only one in Cambridge that owned Studebaker(s).

I don't remember seeing that Studebaker parked there before, and I only lived three houses down. The store-owner, with the bow-tie, was known as the P.T. Barnum of the mountains with his slogans and big giveaways. The youngster wearing coveralls at the front of the truck is now one of the largest car dealers in north GA, western NC, and eastern TN.

#1681- Is that swell looking LC parked in front of that ill painted house because of a thrown fan belt?
No. The car was brand new from the dealership when that photo was taken. I don't know what that is on the road in next to the car. It does look like a fan belt, but not from the LC. This car ended up in Saratoga, California after a road trip through a huge major snow storm from Indianapolis. My dad says he and his buddy cruised right by everyone else on the road. The LC did not seem to mind the heavy snow and ice at all. B-T-W, the interior was faux leopard skin. It had originally been ordered by the owner of the dealership in Indianapolis for his wife. She did not like it so he sold the car to my dad. I sometimes wonder where that car is now.

                          • That's for sure a cool history, & as you probably admit: it would be cool if the var is still alive & turned up in these columns...

                            • Commander Eddie, that is funny about the leopard skin interior. I had a Champion when we lived in Alabama with some kind of "cat" interior, it was on EVERYTHING !!! Hard to look at driving down the road, but it sure got a lot of comments, although I don't remember any positive ones, ha !

                              • j.Byrd, yeh, if the car is still around someplace that would be the defining feature. My dad loved that car. I never could figure out why he traded it in a couple of years later for a convertible. The convertible ran over my cat in the driveway one day. I have mixed feeling about that one. I think it was a '52.
