My one and only (so far) Stude is a '62 Lark 6 2dr named Betty. Why Betty? Well I'm (apparently) a confirmed bachelor. Nevertheless, not one but two mailing lists I was on showed me as married, with the spouse in one case being "Elizabeth" and in the other "Betty" (actually that one is still uncorrected, got a Steve and Betty card in the mail last week!). Those are both variants of the same name; figuring the cosmos was ganging up on me, I circumvented things by buying a blue Studebaker and naming "her" Betty...after Betty Rubble of Flintstones fame, the prehistoric lady who always wears blue. That connects with my modern car at the time (2007) which was a deep purple '97 Neon called "Dino" after the Flintstones' pet dinosaur...

My first Stude was a big black '50 Lnad Cruiser. "Boris" just seemed appropriate. When I traded it for a '55 Speedster project, "natasha" just seemed like the natural progression. I always liked Rocky and Bullwinkel, anyway. :-)
I finally have a Stude I can drive! (sort of)

The car's a '59 Lark Regal wagon w/259 and Flightomatic named "Locomotive Breath", which I've owned since July, '78. So named for the prodigious cloud of smoke produced by flooring the accelerator, a characteristic which discouraged both tailgaters and flooring of the accelerator. It is currrently disassembled, awaiting an influx of time and $$$$ to return it to its original glory, sans the cloud. Incidently, I have named 10 of the dozen or so guitars I own/have owned. Strange habit, eh?

So far, I haven't named any of my Studebakers. The 49 Kaiser Special painted in Glass Green (like pea soup, but lighter) is of course, called the Green Goddess.

Given my coupe's rather irritating habit of going 5 miles or 5 feet, [it has quit running again], i always called it the less than flattering name of Black B##tch

Jeff Rice said it probably broke down because it was insulted by the name and I should rename it a nice girls name
so- now its called Moriah--- the ill wind from the Frankie Laine song

My 1960 Edsel is named 2084 because it is the 2084th built out of 2846.
But finding a name for my 1952 Studebaker has proven elusive.
Tried calling it Old Fifty-two. Didn't stick.
My daily driver cars get called by their color ("the red car," "the gray car") and sometimes, where two are close in color their year ("the '86," "the '99").
But otherwise I have been a failure at naming my cars. The names just don't stick.

please post your car's year and model (and make if it's not a stude), its name, and how you came up with the name. post a picture with it, too, if you can.

Some anthromorphize vehicles, some don't. We had a long thread about this a year or so ago. It would be interesting to confirm a correlation between those who name cars and own dogs as well.

I just call it the Stupidbaker...it's used with affection around my house as my kids say (or used to) "can we go for a Stupidbaker ride" or my wife would say "are you going to work on your Stupidbaker today" When my Dad had the car he would just call it the Schtudie, why he put the German twist to it I don't know, but that name stuck for many years.
