I never named a car but there was a guy written up in TW, who named his Land Cruiser "Elsie" (Get it? LC?) Thot that was appropriate. Saw him and his car, with a big placard about the car at, I think, Sacramento. Nice car. Interesting story.

If you've ever changed the front spark plugs on a V-6 Fiero, you WANNA name it something. To do the job "correctly", you gotta remove the rear trunk/engine cover. If you don't, expect lotsa cuts from the lovely, sharp pieces someone designed for just such an occasion.

Normally don't name them, but my 41 Pontiac has picked up the name Poncho (clever, right? )
So i'm thinking about naming the 53 coupe "Cisco". Long, lean and sophisticated, compared to short, fat and dumpy. Just seems to fit.

My 51 Land Cruiser is named Elsie. Her name is derived from the intinials for Land Cruiser - LC.

        Cheers!

Okay, why not? My first car that I named was my 1975 Olds cutlass: "The Royal Christian Cruiser" (I used to taxi the kids from my youth group around in it....actually come to think of it, they named it, not me)

After that was my 1970 Ford Galaxie 500, which I named "The TIck" Due to the fact that at the time there was a Saturday morning cartoon (and comic book) called "the tick" About a lumbering, dim witted, yet indestructable superhero with the same name. He was huge and blue, and so was my Ford, (I would also classify it as indestructable, based on the construction) So, the name fit. (By the way, I am still a huge fan of that character, and have even found a plastic model kit for a 1970 Ford Galaxie 500 that I assebled and painted to match my old car...man I miss that one) I even went to the length of buying vinyl stick-on letters and putting "The Tick" On both front fenders!

After that was my 84 El Camino. "The Thing" Since i really couldn't tell anyone I was going to give a ride to either "get in the car" or "Get in the truck" Since it wasn't either...really. It was just easier to say "Get in the thing." and it stuck.

And now to my 1963 Lark. You would think that with my forum ID being Tutone63 that would be its name, but it isn't. No, my Lark has the sad name of "Poor Old Lu." You can guess why I call her "Poor" and "Old" But the "Lu" comes from a couple of different things. First, is the L from "Lark" and the phoenetic sound of Lu with Stu (from Studebaker of course) Also, if anyone is familiar with the book "The Lion, the Witch and The Wardrobe" By C.S. Lewis (great author, by the way) There is a line in there after The primary character, Lucy, comes back from her first solo trip into Narnia, and she tries to explain what just happend and no one believes her, when her eldest brother, Peter says: "Poor old Lu, playing games and no one noticed?"
And since she needs constant maintenance, why not name her after a female?

So, yeah, long winded, but that is what I have named my cars..

Oh, and my rust bucket 1992 S10 truck has the name of "Tailgate" due to the fact that it has a gigantic transformers autobot logo on the back windshield, and I remember from my youth I used to have a transformers toy with the same name. But that name is having trouble sticking, so it may change sometime later...

you would think "corvanti" and it started with that name. but after a few too many days working on it from dawn to after dusk, mrs. corvanti renamed it "THEE CARR!!!!" as in the sentence: "you spend more time with THEE #@%$+&* CARR than me!"...

My Avanti is nicknamed "Ghostrider" simply because it's haunted. No joke. I don't really mind. And I don't know if its ghosts are from the original owner or the guys that made it. But, it tries to communicate by making grunting noises. These sounds occur whether it's hot/cold, been recently driven or idle a week, whether the battery is connected or not, etc. It tends to let you know what it likes and doesn't like by uncanny responses. For example, it may choose to heal itself of a long-standing problem or quickly create a new problem. Most recently, the fuel gauge which didn't work for months, suddenly started working. Conversely, the left rear brake light, that has been repaired 500 times including wiring, socket, bulbs, switch, etc, continues to fail no matter what. It defies the laws of physics and electricity. Anyway, I think Ghostrider is beginning to appreciate the more than $10k in paint, body work, service and new parts that have been sunk into her over the last year and a half. I took her out for a spin Saturday night in the clear cool 50F weather and she drove, handled, ran, and looked like a new car. But I still get the feeling she resents hauling people around nearly 48 years after rolling off the assembly line.

I usually wait till I get a feel for the car before I put a name to em. My first car, the 50 champion is Valorie. I once had a 64 GMC short/wide that was Jenny. My current 64 GMC long/wide is Olivia. The 64 Cruiser is Alice. Normally they are just refered to as the white car (the 50), the black car (cruiser), and the truck or the Jimmy (gmc). No real reason, it just felt right!

my 61 cruiser is usually called the stude-a- shaker because no matter how much i work on it i have never gotten all the vibration out of it. occasionally it is called the stupidbaker, but its real name is "sweet nothings" because it started from near nothing and is quite sweet now.
