  • What's your car's name?

face it, many of us name our cars. some we bother to name, others we don't. personally, when i do it, i try to give it a name that "suits its personality" (whatever that's supposed to mean). since my stude is in way too early of stages to define a personality, i was hoping to get some ideas from what other people have done.

please post your car's year and model (and make if it's not a stude), its name, and how you came up with the name. post a picture with it, too, if you can.

here's mine: 51 champion 2 door sedan. unnamed as of now. thinking of going with red velour bench seats in the front and back, then getting black interior panels with a red accent for the "black widow" feel (i do own two black widows currently, and i've always wanted my hair to be colored black with red tips... just kinda makes sense to me).

My fiancee named our 51 Champion "Harold," after the guy in his eighties who owned it before us (from 1972-2009). He really loved the car.

back in the 70s during the generic products rage my granpa drank generic beer, white can with "Beer" in blue letters on the front.

Always remember the can and when we got the white lark with blue interior "Generi-Stude" seemed to fit.

LOL, I've been there numerous times... recently in fact!
I had one that was named the 'Blue Witch' that I gave away. It just seemed the thing was trying to kill me.

As to my current cars, it's all in the sig line.

I named my GT Hawk, Jacqueline after Jackie Kennedy Onassis. I thought my Car looked really classy and Jackie was prime in 1964. When I went through my naming process I looked up some hurricanes that hit land in 1964. The of the bad ones was named Dora and that just reminded me of the little cartoon girl so that name was tossed pretty quickly.

My Speedster was given the moniker of "Suzy Studebaker" by my wife almost the first time she saw it. I never saw it as a female car but hey "If she's happy then everyones happy."

1929 Whippet - The Whippet. Nothing else has ever been suggested.
1951 Champion - Rusty. For obvious reasons, he's a project car.
I have recently bought another Stude which isn't here yet, but we have called it Bruce already after guy I bought it off.
1956 Internation PU - Murray. Bought him off a guy called Grant Murray, and Grant just didn't feel right.
1962 GT Hawk - The Hawk. Has just never got past that.
                      1966 Valiant ute - Val.
1973 VW Kombi - Storm. My wife already had this car when we got together and had named him. 'Storm by name and stormy by nature', was her explantion.
2004 Ford Wagon - Kel. My wife named him after an old brand of refrigerator we used to have down here, (Kelvinators), 'cause he's white and bulky.

We have two Proton 'Jumbuck' utes, (Jumbuck is a very old slang term for sheep - I have no idea why Proton called them that??). Anyway we refer to them as 'Snails', because they are fitted with fibre glass canopys over the tray area, and, well, resemble snails.

Our warehouse forklift is called 'Pongo', Now the reason is a little bit convoluted, so bear with me. Our company logo is a Platapus, (one of Australia's weirdest animals, and we have some weird ones), which is on a sign on our warehouse, from a distance it just looks like a brown blob floating in water, some smart arse said it looked like a floating turd, (we do work at sewage treatment plants - get the connection). In Aussie slang if something stinks it's said to 'Pong', so the Platapus, 'cause it may resemble a turd from a distance gets called Pongo. I have no idea how that name transfered onto the forklift, but it did.

I know the whole thing sounds really lame, right! ;-)

My '55 President State 4dr Sedan is named "Iris" for the best and most influential highschool teacher I had. She was a wonderful lady that tolerated me and others to teach english. That was sixty years ago and I wish I could tell her today what she did for me.
