    • Yes. Out of Whatoff Studebaker the Whatoff Brothers built the trailer toter. I believe they started with Studebakers, but when Studebaker began to build its own version, they begain to build trailer toters using other makes of trucks.

      • Re: Stromberg Studebaker.

Olaf Stromberg was my grandfather. He and his brothers Carl and Oscar owned Stromberg Studebaker. My family had Studebakers while I was growing up. My first car at age 16 in 1963 was a hand-me-down 1955 Studebaker Champion, 4 door, two tone light and dark blue. I loved that car. I was very young when Studebaker went out of business and the dealership turned to selling Dodge. It later went out of business and the building was used by Foster, I think to build TV's.

What would you like to know. I am not an expert on the place but I have family sources.

          • My Grandfather's Dealership has been mention here before.
            Prior names:
            1) 10th Street Garage
            2) Jones & Haeseker Motor Co.

1950-1973 Name after Grandpa bought out his Partner.
My Dad & Uncle later joined the family business.

            Stewart Jones Motors
            925-5th Ave No.
            St. Petersburg, FL

1939 - 1966 Studebaker Dealer; 1957 - 1973 Mercedes Benz. Also sold starting in the 60's DKW, Porsche, Volvo, Fiat in that order. Ended being a Mercedes & Fiat dealership.
1973 was the year he sold the "Garage", as our family called it. I was in the 10th grade and witnessed what I thought would be my profession, being sold out from under me.

It it funny what you can find on the internet. I found a dealership photo of my Dad & Grandfather was "floating" around on some Mercedes-Benz websites. This photo was taken by the local paper, to tell the "locals" Stewart Jones Motors were now selling Mercedes-Benz, too.

The white Studebaker in the showroom is a '57 Silver Hawk. The websites were speculating is was a Golden Hawk or maybe even a Packard Hawk. But look at the side trim. The flat bottom to the side trim means it is a Silver Hawk. Also you can see the passenger side window thru the rear glass. It is a coupe, not a hardtop.

I have this buddy, who will remain nameless,....well, I'll call him Bart Simpson. Bart wants a Mercedes-Benz 300SL Roadster in the worst way...

I do wish they had saved all the Studebaker-Packard promotional banners seen on the walls. But that is why they are rare today. Most of the dealers threw them away, when the new model year came out.

I put some comments on those websites, so you can read what happened to the building. Also it isn't the Studebaker 1920's building that remains in St. Petersburg Florida, to this day

A side note, when Grandpa sold the Dealership, the new owner did not want the Studebaker parts. So, they "gave" away the remaining parts inventory to the Tampa Dealer. Chaires-Fellows Motor Company.

            Some photos to enjoy.

                • Here is a link to a short story about one of the West Coast Giants back in the day, Frost & French on S. Western Ave. in Los Angeles:

We used to get parts and expert advice from them back in the 60s. I believe Studebakers West now owns their remaining inventory.

The two men posing in front of the garage are identified as Thad R. Roberts and Harry L. Creed. We invite you to venture a guess about the year and model of the two circa 1915-1917 touring cars in the photo, which appear to be new. If you would like to learn a bit about the Red Sentry The University of North Texas Libraries. Many more photos along with more information can be found on the Studebaker here on The Old Motor.

                            • Not sure if it was Culver-Davis or Davis-Culver Studebaker in Galesburg, Illinois, but, here's how it looks today. If you look close at the faded paint you can still see the old signage. Click image for larger version

Yes, They did sell Mercedes also. Still do. After the close of Studebaker they offered the Mercedes line exclusively and then added Rolls Royce to the lineup. My wife's neighbor Joanne married Marty, the owner. The dealership moved to the "mainline" a ritzy suburb of Philadelphia and they are still in business but now located at 4311 West Swamp Road, Doylestown, Pa. 18902 about a half hour ride north of the city.
