  • Body / Glass: Right way to apply 3M weather strip adhesive

    I had to replace the trunk weather strip and decided I would try to find a good and less messy way to do it.
    I found this. Hopes it helps others out as it made my installation much easier. Notice the 63 Hawk plate also.

      Don't to forget to clean the mold release , the white powder, off before gluing.

        Most of the rubber for our cars come with plenty of powder AND a very shiny rubber finish that does NOT want to accept adhesive. I speak directly to the little Lark pieces at the forward drain hole location. I've resorted to roughing up the shiny surface with a steel brush to create non-shiny, better sealing cavities for the adhesive. Clean before adhesive application with clean solvent...dry. Remember our old bicycle tube patch kits' with etcher ?

          The "wrong way" isn't necessarily wrong if you don't get the weather strip where you want it the first time. Some of us lack the hands of a surgeon.

            Looked too easy.

            So why do I see this after I have my car 80% done??? Oh well. At least the last 20% may go on easier and last longer than the first 3+ doors.

              I recently had a body shop guy tell me that they have begun using the double-stick molding tape on weatherstripping that is reasonably wide. Anyone tried that?
