  • Body / Glass: Can't get windshield trim on 50 commander

Anyone know a trick to installing the windshield chrome trim around the 50 commander windshield. I bought a 50 land cruiser about a year back, the owner had replaced the rubber to stop a leak. I have a parts car, 50 land cruiser and can see how it fits but I can not get the trim into the grove in the rubber. I have a sun visor to install but need to install the trim first. Thanks

What should have been done is a length of rope should have been put in the groove in the rubber before the windshield was installed, it will keep the gap open just enough to install the trim. You can then remove the rope from behind the trim or as i did, leave it in. You can try to put some rope no more than 3/8ths diameter in since the windshield is in. I have never tried it that way however.

Not sure about the earlier cars, but later cars have the stainless installed in rubber before the rubber is installed I think.

Not so on 1952 and earlier, it is put in after windshield is in since the windshield is installed from the inside of the car! But yes 1953 and later the stainless trim goes in before windshield is installed as it is installed from the outside of the car.
