  • Body / Glass: Half-ton truck hoods

Are 1949-53 half-ton hoods the same as 1955 half-ton hoods?

The '55 "C" Cab Hood is going to have several holes for the big full width "Studebaker" Nameplate and the different Hood Ornament, that should be the only difference.

Agree with Rich. However, for the record, the 56 hood is taller to accommodate the taller radiator and radiator support. So while the 56-64 hood will fit the 49-55 trucks, the reverse is not true.

Well...in four decades of owning, driving, and talking these trucks, I either didn't pay attention, or simply never knew the radiators had changed for 1956. Was it different across the board, or just for the heavier duty trucks with large engines? Until now, I thought the bump on the hood was only a cosmetic change.

The 1/2 tons changed too. We have a 56 in the driveway right now with an earlier hood on it and the hood will not latch with the stock radiator support.

I'm not so sure, Skip. Years ago, my uncle used a 49 hood on an otherwise stock 59 Scotsman.

Ya got me Matt -- just looked it up and the Scotsman(s) [Scotsmen?] used a different radiator support that presumably was similar to the one used on the 2R-E series. The taller 1956 hood, however, WAS necessary to accommodate the taller radiator mount needed for the HD 259 and was also used on everything except the Scotsman (the radiators were not all the same -- just the support). And the E40 model (introduced in 1957) used one that was different again --both taller and wider (I think).

                John-
See above post. The support changed -- many of the radiators stayed the same.
