  • Engine: 232 Water Pump Manifold Question

    Hello,

I am currently restoring a 1951 Land Cruiser equipped with the 232 V-8. I took the water pump manifold off today and not to my surprise, notice a crap ton of erosion in it. I also happen to notice that there was this hole when looking right down the inlet that connects to the top of the radiator. Now, from what I understand, the two top tubes of the manifold route water through the cylinder heads while the two bottom tubes route water through the engine block.

Is this hole suppose to be there? Or is this a result of the upper channel rotting through to the bottom channel? I was thinking that the upper and lower banks were suppose to be separated.

Interesting question. I have a 1952 Land Cruiser, but never had the pump off.

It's too bad a lot of people don't believe in using antifreeze to prevent that rust.

The water manifold on my 289 has a hole right where the one is on your 232.

That hole is a bypass hole. Just clean up your old manifold , think about the block too clean all cooling parts as best you can.

The bypass was enlarged in early 1951....
