  • Cool/Heat: Compressor Brands

Does anyone what brands of compressors were used on a 62 Hawk AC system? I'm restoring one and the lable got obliterated while cleaning the baked on grease off. All I can make out is what looks like "Bor.. Corporation" Illinois, USA or something like that. Any ideas?

They are York compressors....there was a tag that said Studebaker Corporation. Perhaps that is what was torn off?

Thanks. I'll have to look at it closer to see if I can make anything else out. The fun part will be trying to find one to replace it. Is the Eaton the original compressor?

The original compressors were York. Maybe the tag was Borg.

I'm pretty sure that was it. Were they out of Illinois?

Good question, but I don't have an answer to it. It's just the way it was set up when I bought a couple years ago.

Paul, do you have a picture of the Eaton? FYI, the compressor that was on my Hawk, in the attachment from Bezhawk, is for sale, I put a Sanden on mine. It needs a seal, and Berry Hackney (buried in Studes) has it. PM him if you are interested. It has the Studebaker/Packard tag on it.

After putting a couple more small pieces together I'm pretty sure the label says "BorgWarner". Would that make sense?
