I'll echo what everyone else is saying. Figure out that PCV valve issue first. After that, you should check for vacuum leaks. I bought a vacuum gauge at Harbor freight for $9 and it's never failed me. Otherwise, the spray lube thing works really well too - I had an old '83 Plymouth I used that method on, and found all my leaks. If all that fails, but a carb rebuild kit. Maybe I'm highly gifted (I doubt it), but at 17 I was able to rebuild a carb by myself. They aren't as scary to rebuild as you might think. (Now fine-tuning them after the rebuild is another matter altogether. I DID need help with that part!)

You are quite welcome. Good luck with the new baby. It's always exciting to get one back on the road again.

Does your car have a sealed or vented oil filler cap? There are 2 types of breather systems on 65 & 66 V-8's, one called an "unsealed type" & the other the "sealed type." The sealed type can be identified by the tube from the rear of the engine where it is held in position by a bracket off the right rear cylinder head/intake manifold. This tube is connected by a short hose to an elbow in the bottom of the air cleaner. Another hose comes off the oil fill tube on the front of the intake that goes to the rear of the carburator. The oil fill tube has a sealed cap which requires a slight turn to remove it. At the rear of the carburator the hose connects to a restricted orifice-no P.C.V. valve.

The "unsealed type" has no hose off the oil fill tube on the front of the engine. It has a slip on breather cap on it. The "adapter assembly" (as its called in the parts book) on the right rear of the intake manifold has a hose that goes to the P.C.V. valve which screws into an elbow at the rear of the carburator. These both are shown in the parts book on page 6. Hope this helps.

Warren, going off of your descriptions, I would have to say that mine is the unsealed type. I have a vented breather cap and a hose coming off the back that is supposed to be attached to the carb base. I have ordered the new PCV and will be hooking it all up as soon as I can pick it up.

Also, I am yet to pick up a parts book. It is on my list of things to do. Just havent gotten around to it. We just put an offer in on a house so we have been a bit pre-occupied with that.

Putting the new PCV in today. We'll see what happens. Brakes are getting buttoned up in the morning.

Is there any trick to installing the inner wheel seal?
