  • Cool/Heat: Mountng SI's Radiatior Overflow Kit in a Cruiser

I may want to go racing with the Cruiser in South Bend this summer and it seems the track requires an overflow bottle. I noticed that SI sells a "Radiator Overflow Kit." In the description says it was standard on Avanti II's "and is a great addition on other Studebakers including Larks, Hawks & trucks." My question is where to mount such a kit on my Cruiser. Has anybody else used such a "kit" on a '65 V8 car?

Don't know about that SI kit, but on my '64'Cruiser I
got an aftermarket kit with a square/rectangular shaped
bottle which sits on the front of the battery shelf real nice.
On my car the overflow pipe points toward the battery so it
even allows for a nice short connecting hose. Also the battery
    holds the bottle in place.

Or you can go NOT SO fancy:

I use a old brake fluid bottle tie-wrapped to the bumper support. It's yellow with a hole drilled in the top of the bottle for the overflow tube. It's in pure CASO fashion and perfectly acceptable for the PSMCDR. Why waste your money for one race day?

One reason might be to be a good citizen and avoid spilling coolant needlessly. Most antifreeze contains poisonous substances that some wildlife finds tasty for some reason.

shoot I was just thinking about using an empty 5th of Fireball! and mounting it near the horn (which doesnt work).

The advantage of an actual designed coolant recovery kit is they will return coolant to the radiator after things cool down. Thus you do not lose coolant, or pollute.
