  • Body / Glass: 51 windshield question (One more).

I have read in this forum that the new windshield rubber is more difficult to install than the old one.
The same was said about installing of the stainless trim.

I have both the aftermarket rubber from SI and the old one that does not
seem to be in bad shape.

Which one should I try to use?

Also what 3M or some other brand and number of glass sealer is compatible(similiar to) with - CRL 1719
that would be easier to find?

    Thanks

    Paul

Those windshield and back light weatherseals do have memory, and from that aspect the install can be easier when the original one is reused. Having said that, the original really has to be deteriorated after 60 years.
It may be somewhat more difficult to go with a new weatherseal, but the end result will definitely be better.

The glass install with the new rubber isn't that difficult. The stainless trim is another story.
It can only be done after the glass install. We are still waiting for Matthew to contribute a how to video.

I finally got the stainless in mine last year. It took hours of work over several weeks by myself. It might be faster with help but it is still very difficult. My paint suffered in the process. use tape liberally to protect it. If you can find someone else that is willing to do it I would recommend it. The new rubber was definitly helpful. Just putting the windshield in was a piece of cake. The stainless was a bear.
