sigpicAnything worth doing deserves your best shot. Do it right the first time. When you're done you will know it. { I'm just the guy who thinks he knows everything, my buddy is the guy who knows everything.} cheers jimmijim*****SDC***** member

I have done several front and back glass installs alone. However, no C/K. I was about to pontificate about my innovative skills but thought I would consult a manual first. I am glad I did. My 1955 shop manual has a section that covers back glass installation. It shows three men. Two on the outside and one on the inside. For them, it was a snap to merely walk over to the parts counter, pick up a sufficient quantity of "Dum Dum" to slather over the body flange. Then there is the sealer that is to be liberally squeezed into the glass channel of the gasket, the soapy solution to apply to the reveal moulding channel, and lastly...the pull cord to be wrapped around the body flange channel in the gasket so that the guy inside the car can pull it over the body flange as the two people on the outside apply pressure and tap the glass with rubber mallets as the glass eases into place.

Give me a few weeks to think this through....I'll get back to you!

After being unable to get the back window in my '56 Power Hawk all the way in, I had a professional do it. I helped him by pushing in on the outside of the window as he was pulling the rope from the inside. The difference in what he did was that he used his hands as the "hammer" on the outside of the glass. The shop manual calls for the use of a soft hammer. I didn't have the nerve to hit the window with a hammer. I can't see how one person can put the rear window in in a C/K. Hope this helps. Good luck.

I did mine myself-really no secret to it. Use plenty GOJO for lube. After all I had read about the nightmare of installing it,I was surprized it was so easy. The back glass slipped in in about 20 minutes-but I think the c-k bodies probably vary greatly in tolerances. My windshield took me about 6 tries to squeeze it in,and i really can't say what it took to finally get it done, except lots of patience.
Basically I installed both following the shop manual step by step, and slowly doing the job of 3 men [but one at a time] I hope that makes sense!

A big THANK YOU to all who contributed!!!

Now armed with all that good SDC FORUM info, I'll begin gathering up the required supplies/tools and have a go at it.

May even try to take a few pics. of the install to post here if I can manage to grow a "third arm" between now and the "attempt" this weekend!

According to Lark Parker (Dale McPhearson), wearing a huge bow tie helps.

Someone gave a seminar on this at the intl meet in Austin Tx. in 1998. I watched as the instructors threw up their hands in despair and walked away.
