Exhaust: Exhaust Bracket 676857 (needed?)

So I have this exhaust bracket for my '54 3R5 truck. The bracket was made to attach to the bell housing and hold the exhaust pipe coming off the header. It is not attached to the engine now and I don't think I've ever seen one actually is use from the picture I've seen around. I'm curious if the bracket is really needed or perhaps taken off purposely.

Not sure this answers your question, but my 3R6 uses a similar exhaust bracket on the bell housing -- and it's attached and in use.

I use mine too. I believe it helps stabilize the header pipe and not put undo stress on the exhaust manifold connection.
