  • Electrical: Safety/backup switch

I’m looking for a picture of what a start lockout/backup light switch for a power steering column on a 53 or newer C/K.
I have manual steering switch and I am looking to see just how different a power steering switch would be.
    Thanks, John

I am sure it is all about the way the linkage and lever are made to fit a different column, ANY way you can rig it to the shift lever that puts the switch all the way left and right, to make the circuit for Back-up Lts. and Neutral/Park at the opposite end of travel will work, if you can't find the correct switch.

Yes, I have been looking how to make my switch work. A little metal, a little welding and it can be done. I was just curious what it would/should look like.
Maybe I'll post a want ad to see if someone out there has one that they are willing to sell.

As for any of the later cars which had Bendix power steering, they would use the same switch regardless of power steering or not. They used the same steering column and box for both.

That would be correct, but I'm installing a Saginaw system, so my column has to change. I guess I should have asked for a picture of a Saginaw switch. Hoping someone out there can snap a quick photo and post it.
          Thanks,
          John

If the switch is like this(image below) I have one in my 3 speed manual, I can take a picture of it.

If it is saginaw power steering that would be great. Otherwise, thank you for the offer but no need, spend your day having some fun.

I'm really not sure if it is the Bendix or Saginaw this is on my 57 Commander I couldn't see a brand name on the power steering reservoir.

You have a complete Saginaw Power Steering System, it is integral in the Steering Gear, having only Two components, not like a '58 to '66 Bendix/Eaton with Four and 4 Hoses.

It appears that with Saginaw Power Steering the switch mounts on the Steering Gear, not on the Column like the one shown for a non-power, Car.
The function is the same, but with Automatic there are 4 wire Terminals and Two functions, in P&N & R positions.

The Photo is of one for Automatic.
