  • Cool/Heat: 1950 Champion Heater hose routing ??

my Champion had no heater hoses connected, the parts catalog image of the hose connection isn't clear. i installed new hoses, but wonder if the heater hose connection is correct. Has anyone any ideas/images. Note it is 85 degress here in Vegas and Climatizer my cut off water flow to heater thus No Heat...Thank You

Firstly there is a line from a fitting on top of the water pump that passes through the inner fender where a clasp will hold it there, there should be some holes pre drilled in the inner fender to hold the clasp. That hose fits into a "T", straight through goes to the heat core under the seat and the "T" fitting goes to the defrost fitting. A return line from the heater core also goes through a "T" and into one fitting of the control valve and the other outlet of the control valve returns to the fitting at the rear of the block, the "T"" fitting goes to the other tube of the defrost coil. There is a double clasp that holds the assembly to the firewall. Follow the circulation, from the water pump to the heater core via a "T" and to the defrost core. From the heater core it returns to the heat control valve via a "T" and that hose returns to the block. The "T" fitting in the return line from the heater core goes to the defrost core. Clear as mud.

It is not clear, if you want it to heat in the terrible 55 to 60 degree Winter there ? You say you have it shut off ?

The Engine to under seat Heater Core hoses are 5/8", the Hoses to the Defroster Core are 3/8", the 5/8" to 3/8" adapter "T"'s are available New.

Someone correct me if not right, but I believe that Hottest water from the Cyl. Head input Hose to the Control Valve goes on the straight fitting, output to one of the T's goes on the angled one.

I think if you focus on the Champion 6 Hose routing, it will make "some" sense in the Parts Catalog, maybe scan and enlarge it ?

It is an Automatic and Manual thermostatic Control Valve. It can work with the hose on either nipple, but One is correct for best flow.

Just as a side note, for authenticity, Studebaker never installed red heater hose, only black.

Ya know, I do not remember ANY Car Mfg. using that ugly red stuff, only parts Store replacements.
      Working...
