Clutch / Torque Converter: Engine stalls when put in gear

Engine runs fine in neutral, but dies when put in gear. Could it be a stuck torque converter? How do I remedy that if it is? I have a 57 commander with the 3 speed transmission . I'm new to Studebaker.

When this happens, it is because the poster did not WAIT for the slow Server to respond before hitting the "Post" button again.
