After installing new thermostat housing gasket = leaks. I did my best to clean and scrape all remnants of old gasket and sealant material from the facings, and sandpaper = no luck. Some time ago I found the 57" V8 Chevy housing surfaces are the same and FelPro offers a superior, rubber ridged replacement. I remember using one in the past with good results and am installing a new ($22.) today. I recall no sealant. Will follow with results.
