  • Cool/Heat: Radiator 1685693 MC 5G7 in a 3E40 and what Upper radiator hose do I order?

    Good Afternoon,

A few weeks ago, I ordered new radiator hoses for my big 3E40 truck. I got what I ordered, but I ordered based on what the parts book indicated, and that was wrong. I think some long-ago owner swapped radiators when they swapped cabs.

I scrubbed at the tag on the radiator tag and revealed this:

The unscrubbed version looks like this:

I read that number as 1685893

And I looked in the index of my parts book and was directed me to plate 501:

My engine is 6E1355. That indicates it is a 289" instead of any of the smaller varieties indicated on that plate.

So I've got the `wrong` radiator for the engine for the size of the truck. Ok, whatever. This thread is really about what radiator hose do I need.

The diagrams in the parts book show a hose with a jog like the 1685683 hose that I ordered and received.

But from the top radiator output to the top of the water pump, I just need one bend without any jogs.

Maybe the real issue is what upper radiator hose do I need for my water pump, since there is no offset from the thermostat housing.

    Any thoughts? Concerns? Questions?

Looking at that Generic Year/Model Diagram/Drawing of the Rad. Hose jogging to the right makes me think that the Late 1959 4E-40 (Note 4) Manifold 1692063 had its Stat. Housing opening to the Right, for that jogged 1685683 Hose to fit !

    A 1957/'58 3E-40 gets a 680378 Manifold.
BUT, if that were true, HOW could both '57/'58 3E and '59 4E get the same hose ?

So, I still can't seen to resolve this, checking all the related parts, models and years.

It is beginning to look like there are some errors in the Truck Parts Catalog which is not new, I found some obvious ones last week helping someone with a truck "fit issue".
    (Rich: say it isn't True ! )

The MC 5G7 is just the McCord number.

Thank you StudeRich I appreciate you checking the other sources.

Thanks too for explaining the Mc5G7. I had no idea what that was.
