  • Body / Glass: Finally paint time

After lots of sheet metal cut and replace, a week of filler and sanding, and several days of blocking primer, I get to shoot paint tomorrow on my 56j Goldenhawk. It has been rusting away for many years before I rescued it.

I know the feeling, and my hat is off to you. Please also post pics after the paint is on. Good to hear another 56J is being saved.

Good deal! What will the color be?

By the way, good looking dog too.

Just curious what kind of paint you intend to use and what is your intent for the car?

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you all! The color is buttercup yellow, the paint is a single-stage acrylic, the dog is a female red fox lab.

My intentions for the car are to keep it. It's really going to have to be a restomod. There is so much missing and wrong that i cannot justify a correct restoration. Hood and trunk wrong year, original 352 shot with big ugly freeze cracks on the block, and so much chrome missing!

So im doing it my way ...and having creative fun with it. Two-circuit brakes, completely new upholstery that i did the way that i liked, and an Olds 455 Rocket motor and TH400 transmission!

Here's doors, front fenders, trunk lid and hood done yesterday. Today i roll the body in and get three coats on.

And this other picture is what I was starting with.

Say, is the strut rod (don't know what else to call it) connecting the R and L hood hinges istalled correctly? I cant remember how it went, but the way i have it on now, it doesnt seem like the back end of the hood would be able to close completely.

Heres a side view of it
