Clutch / Torque Converter: Clutch Shaft Lubrication

I am curious as to why the bell housing on my 289 has provisions for clutch shaft lubrication on the drivers side (zerk fitting) but only a closed cavity on the passenger side. It would seem to me that both sides should lubricated with a zerk fitting.

The passenger side has a bronze oilite bushing. permeant lube.
