  • Exhaust: Compatible part years for a '54 3R5-12 truck

Hi All, Picked up my '54 last year and I am in the process of going thru everything for a near complete restoration. She's already in good shape but want to bring back things like original Stude color, wiring, exhaust and so on. '54 being a one off year make it harder, of course, to find specific parts like armrests, rearview mirror... I read Skip's piece on making a '49-'53 headliner fit the '54 (thank you Skip) and that got me wondering what other C-cab years work with '54. There's obviously things like windshield and gauge cluster that wouldn't but would an exhaust set up from a '55 fit the same in a '54? or the armrest screw holes line up with an earlier '50's model? I've been a member for a year now and have gained so much information from you all. Thank you I appreciate that.

Studebaker changed very little on their 49-64 trucks -- only the things that HAD to be changed. The basic cab remained unchanged, except for the windshield and back window areas. So the arm rest holes in the doors are the same for the whole period. And the exhaust parts will be same for a given engine and wheelbase -- in your case (3R5), 1949- 59. You need to buy a 1949-56 truck parts book. It will show exactly what parts were common to different models and years. They are available form most vendors as either reprints or as CDs. And originals are often listed on ebay. Studebaker Truck Parts Catalog in Manuals & Literature for sale | eBay

Addendum to above. Inside rear view mirror: same mirror and arm on all C-cabs, mount same 54-64. Windshield: same 54-64. Instrument cluster: same 54-55, and non-electrical gauges (speedo, oil, temp) also same in 56.

Great information! I do have a '54 3R parts catalog but didn't realize they also grouped years. That will be very helpful and it's already ordered.
        Again thanks for the tips!
