  • Body / Glass: 63 Champ Long Box

Hey folks, wanted to see what other people thought of gutting the interior of a Champ. I would absolutely love to save mine, but I'm going to be realistic here and say that the old mouse infested headliner and moldy door panels would be better off getting replaced. Bench should be fine at least . Photo included too (Realized I don't have many pictures of the interior!)

Does anyone know if the 4dr Lark body panels fit in easy enough to the Champ panels? Same with say headliner and sun visors too, or is everything Champ specific? I thought I had read that they used the 4dr Lark cab up to the back wall there, but don't know if someone has experience with doing this themselves. Obviously will redo seals and such at the same time with these, so if anyone has recommendations where I can get this stuff let me know or I'll shuffle through the vendors a few more times.

    Thanks again folks.

Yes, a Champ cab is the front half of a 1959-60 Lark 4-door therefor the front doors and related components will fit a Champ. Studebaker parts vendors may have new headliners for the Champ, as a Lark headliner would have to be modified/resewn to fit/work.
I see you are in Henning, I purchased my John Deere excavator at a diesel repair shop at the north end of Henning back in 2019.

Good to know about the Lark parts. And I havent been to the diesel shop in quite a while, but I do believe a classmate of mine worked over there for a while after graduation. Nice little place

I looked through your photos, I seem to recall having seen your Champ for sale on Craigslist in the Minneapolis area. Glad to see it found a new home! I notice it has a dual-chamber master cylinder, that is a nice modification as they originally had a single-chamber master cylinder. Does it have a 4-speed or is it a 5-speed transmission? I wonder if the topper may be a factory option?

Yep was on the north side there out of a larger collection. Was the last one on the lot since the guy was selling them to collectors and less for the money and there isn't a huge collector for Champs. Day I went and got it a guy out of Switzerland offered some serious money for the truck so good timing for me I suppose. I was about a day late to picking up Carribean Convertible otherwise you would've found me on Packard forums! But yes it is a 5w/Overdrive and the topper is similar to the factory option, but is actually a Ford topper that was built in the California market. Lark cab, post war frame, Dodge box, and Ford topper makes for quite the combo!

Welcome to the SDC and to the SDC Forum Vincent !

The Style of the Door Panels will be different, but any Late '55 (Wraparound W/S) to '62 Lark 4 Dr. or 4 Door Wagon Panel should fit.
The Regal Larks have really Nice ones.

    This is a 1960 5E7-122 with a Late '61 to '64 "P2" Spaceside Box added.

You will learn that Champs are often referred to as "T" Cabs, as that is what Studebaker used for the Truck Body Type Code.
This is helpful when ordering Parts from one of our Turning Wheels SDC Monthly Publication advertisers found at: Studebaker Vendors

You will find a Body Tag on the right upper firewall under the hood, that says it is a T-4 Standard Cab, or a T-6 Deluxe Cab, usually with the sliding rear window.

Didn't realize just how many vehicles had interchangeable parts like that. Those Regal panels look super sweet! Ill see if I can find some that kind of match the current interior or if not at least I know other cars will. Odd combo of peach and turquoise in there so who knows. Also I dont have the picture right off, but I do believe it is the T6 based off the tag and the sliding rear window which is unique with it lining up with the sliding window of the topper as well. Thank you!
