Engine: '63 Avanti R2 PCV valve

Folks,
Just recently my R2 Avanti has started emitting white smoke from the dual air filter. The fumes are also coming from the valve cover breathers. Oddly enough, the engine seems to be running fine. Today I had its regular service, grease, oil and filter change, plus gas filter. But I've still got the smokey emissions. Could the problem be the PCV valve or system? I always thought the valve was located right behind the AFB carb, but apparently there are several different PCV system arrangements on these type motors. I would greatly appreciate any insight, advice, information or diagrams that might help me resolve this issue. Thanks very much.

You are 100% correct, the PCV, referred to as a "fitting" in the Avanti parts manual is screwed into the rear of the original Carter AFB carb. No other place for such a device is correct.

The stock PCV valve is screwed into the base of the carburetor. First thing is to clean the breather caps in mineral spirits, and flush out the PCV valve with carb cleaner. Most likely culprit on smoking Studes is valve guide seals.

Speaking of valve guide seals..............run your engine, goose the gas a good amount, release the gas pedal, if white smoke is emitted from the tail pipes, in my personal experience, this would indicate as Brad said valve guide seals need to be replaced, hopefully with pop up type, when I rebuilt the engine on my Avanti, these are what I used, 40K miles later, still does not smoke;-)

White smoke? PCV? Oil doesn't burn white, last I knew. I'd be looking at coolant loss, which burns whitish. Head gasket?

The only smoke coming from the tail pipes when gassed is light blue. And, it's not much. Jon Myer indicated that I was likely confusing smoke with vapor. He suggested in the very hot weather down South, there was likely boiling of the fuel. He advised I add Marvel Mystery Oil to gas and clean the PCV valve and associated hoses. I wanted to confirm the precise location of the PCV valve. Thank everyone for their comments and help. Anymore info or ideas is appreciated.

All PCV systems tend to clog because of the oily vapors, especially in winter. They should be cleaned regularly. Inspect the PCV valve. There is a tiny passage into a washer located inside. This washer is supposed to move freely to react to vacuum variations and might be stuck. If it works as intended, you'll even hear a faint click when the engine settles to idle.

An Avanti PCV Valve is not like most other PCV Valves you describe, it is simply a Fitting with a backfire resisting Ball Check inside.
