  • Cool/Heat: Compressor

The AC on new Avanti II is apart in the trunk. Does anyone know if a Sanden 508 compressor can be used for this application. (Lots of stuff that is universal isn't!)

If it originally used a York compressor like the Hawks did, there is an adapter to mount the Sanden in place of the York on the stock mount. Or, you can easily make one from a couple short pieces of 2" angle iron if you're mechanically incline and have a few tools. These days they don't use R12 anymore, they use 134A so you'll need new hoses because the 134A will leak through the R12 hoses. You'll also need a new drier.

This is the adapter I made.

Most Avanti IIs came with the contemporary GM compressor. Not sure about the earliest models. This is my 74. Click image for larger version
