  • Engine: V8 Engine rotation ?

This question pertains to My 63 Champ 289, thinking all V8s would be the same though. I can't get My Head around what direction the Crank Pulley rotates when cranking Engine over while standing in front of Vehicle .

    It turns clockwise.

It can be confusing: I've always referred to the "Left" & "Right" side of a car from the driver's seat. However when referring to rotation of the engine, it's from in front of the car, facing the engine. I don't know why, it just is!
There's one in every crowd, fer cryin' out loud... why was it always turnin' out to be me?

      Look at your fan blade.
The fan rotation pulls air from the front and pushes air to the back.

Very interesting... I was going to confirm what the shop manual says about side of vehicle: they instruct looking forward from the driver's seat. They make no mention of engine rotation (to my knowledge).

Yes, MOST all V-8 engines run clockwise (as viewed from the front)...from the factory (YES, Studebakers run clockwise).
BUT, can be setup to run counter-clockwise (with cam change) to run in dual engine boats, or aircraft, to counteract the torque of dual engine craft.

Some offshore 4 cylinder engines run counter-clockwise, as do "some" flat-6 engines.
