  • Cool/Heat: V8 AC Compressor Bracket changes: 1959-64

OK, need someone with more Stude tech knowledge than I have:

Why does the parts catolog show 3 different 259 V8 AC compressor brackets from 1959 thru 1964 for Lark types: one for 59-60, another for 61-62, and a third for 63-64?

The 259 was virtually unchanged during this time, the only things that come to mind are the change in the thermostat housing for 61 and the switch from generator to alternator in 63. Would these have had an impact on the AC compressor bracket, or is there something else I'm not aware of?

And the aftermarket AC suppliers list one V8 bracket to cover the period 59-64.

I think you identified the reasons in your first post. In 63-64 it's for the alternator, which is attached to the A/C bracket.

Sorry I cannot answer your question, but are the 63-64 Lark types the same as Hawk types, that route the belt onto a 2-sheeve pulley on the water pump? Do any of the 3 types route the belt onto an idler pulley on the driver's side, and not using a 2nd pulley on the WP?
        Thanks,

Hood clearance is a problem for one difference between a 59-60 Lark vs. Hawk59-64 bracket. Im talking factory brackets not after market.

The compressors were not all the same nor the top pulleys. Others have already stated the gen / alt issue. My guess is the different holes for the accessories. I have several but can't check them presently.

The "Thermostat Housing" change you note was a major one, it was not so much the Housing but the Water Manifold.
Some Compressor Brackets actually bolt to the 2 or 4 Bolt T Stat surface of the Manifolds.

There were York Compressors and Eaton.
