  • Engine: Valve Train Lack Of Oil to Number One

Well , I went to my service manual and came up with nothing .

1960 Lark 259 2 bbl , runs great , buy valve clearance on number one got a little noisy after 6000 miles . Pulled cover and number one valves looked DRY . Ran engine with covers off and all other rocker arms are getting plenty of oil volume . Oil pressure at idle hot is 20 .

I am not familiar with the cause of this and am hoping for help from you all .

Very curious to watch this take place on only one set of valves !

    Thanks

    Joe

In this case, I would remove the valve train, take the two plugs out of the shaft and get rid of all the crud inside. Don't forget to clean the oil passages in the rocker arms too. Of course, if one side is drty, the other one will be as well.
    Nice day to all.

Does your car have an oil filter? If so, maybe it’s lacking the correct restrictive fitting. This may cause lower oil pressure, not sure if it’s enough to cause your issue though.

Sounds like blocked oil hole(s) in the rocker shaft for one or two rocker arms. As mentioned above the rocker arm shaft should be pulled, checked and cleaned.

The oil escape holes in the rocker shaft are very small and plug up easily. Pull it and clean it.

X2 - it's a PITA to disassemble, pull out the soft plugs and rod out the inside of the shafts, but most are full of crud and it's impossible to clean them externally. One can poke open the holes, but that's just pushing it back inside with all the other crud, which will soon plug the holes again.

Make sure this special bolt is in the correct position, otherwise oil flow to the rocker arm shaft will be restricted.
All 8 bolts are recessed the same.

My memory was incorrect, perhaps it is the support stands that are different. Original comment deleted.
