  • Body / Glass: Window regulator rebuild

Does anyone have a suggestion of someone that rebuilds window regulators? A moron at the body shop did not realize that Studebaker windows crank the opposite way and stripped out the gears on the driver window! To make it more painful it was a NOS one when I installed it a couple of years ago.

What is it on?? Surely someone can help you out! I should think that they would be liable and should replace it.

He sure was a moron. Turning it so hard as to strip it out was really stupid and irresponsible.

Some folks have cannibalized parts from passenger side regulators to repair the overly used drivers side ones.

If it is the sector that is stripped, I have had success adding braze and then grinding down to proper shape. This repair has lasted for years in regular use.
If it is the gear, get one from another used regulator.

I have a couple that are wore out so have been thinking of tearing one apart to see what it would take to rebuild it. Can't be that hard and if I can't nothing wasted as it's shot anyway.

Must be some decent money in them as Studebaker Intl. is selling rebuilt ones for $210 ea.!

I just switched out the regulator on my '64 GT by using a rear ( same side ) from a 4 door parts regulator. The '64 has larger attaching screws than a '63 for what it's worth. If you need any parts PM me. I repaired a regulator on my '64 HT the same way.

Thanks Rob. Gone on business until next week. Will take a look then and get back to you. I need to see if I kept the original one up in my garage somewhere.
