Engine: Supercharger rebuild

I have a VS57 that is in unknown condition. It turns fine and has oil in it, that's all I know about it. Does anyone know of someone who could take a look at this and possibly rebuild it close to MN? I really don't want to ship this thing all the way to California (paradise wheels is the only place I know of that does this kind of work).

Studebaker is not the only marque that used the VS57.

I thought about just trying it out first, but worried it might cost more to rebuild if I break something. But I guess if it's bad I'd at least know it is bad before I send it out.

Do not sent to John Erb. Apparently he has health issues is not able to do them anymore as my friend has been waiting over two years for his to be returned.

There are lots of places that only put in bearings. There is a lot to inspect. Oil pump bushings are usually shot. Pressure plate pre-load springs can go bad. output shaft sealing rings wear into the case and a speedy sleeve after it gets bored can fix that. Splines on the sliding pulleys usually are worn. The pulley shift solenoid diaphragm is often rotten. Shimming the impeller is important too. Bearings are the easy part.

Who would you guys recommend sending this to? I want it right, not just a bearing swap.

There are a bunch of articles online, I bet if you follow the instructions and inspect everything well you could do it. I may have a few vs57 spare parts if you need something. You have my phone # Sam.

I actually just bought a vs57 shop manual off of eBay. It's a digital download and was only $4. I think I'm going to try to tackle this rebuild myself and if I find something major that is beyond my abilities to repair, I'll send it in. I'll keep in touch Brian, I might be in need of some parts!

Ted Harbit did rebuild them and had some for sale at the international meet a couple year ago.

I would send it to Craig at Paradise Wheels. It is worth the shipping cost. He does a great job. It is worth it.
