I have a 53 Commander with the original 232 V-8. I was talking to Offenhauser in California about dress-up Studebaker engine parts. One of the people there has a Studebaker. I asked about aluminum versions of the oil filler tube as a dress-up item. He said he has one on his engine, but Offenhauser doesn't make that, and it doesn't appear they ever made that. He mentioned that some of the Studebaker engines had aluminum oil filler tubes from the factory and that he just found and polished one of those. I looked at some of my books and found part numbers 525922, 682811, 1539054, and 1551495 that ran from 55 through 64. None of the parts books mention the casting material. I also don't know if the later versions of the oil filler tube work with the 232, even if there are aluminum ones. Did they ever make aluminum oil filler tubes?

That's interesting Mike. All '61 and Early '62's I have owned and seen had the Taller Aluminum Tube with the Mounts built in for a Spin-On Fram PB-50 (or equivalent) Disposable "Can" Filter, 1551495.
All '51 to '54's had the Iron Tube with Oil Filter AND Fuel Pump Mountings.
All '55 to '60 Had the Baffled Iron one with Filter Mounts, 1539054.
And of course the Late '62 to '64's with a Full Flow Block mounted Filter, have a block-off Plate.
I am sure what you have exists alright, but it's purpose is certainly limited, questionable and rarely used.
For Clearance on A/C equipped cars with NO Oil Filter? That's weird.I wonder if an Aftermarket A/C Co. would do that?
Especially since all Pre Late '62 V8's had no other place for a Filter.
I never liked them, as they tend to have Less baffling inside than Iron ones to keep the returning Oil from the Filter from blowing out the Cap particularly on higher mileage Engines. Also, being taller get into the Fan Air Flow more
A shorter one would be worse, due to Cam gear Oil Spray.
The Part Numbers in Post #1 (525922 & 682811) are both for 6 Cyl. Engines, from '55 to '62 there are only those 2 for V8's.Last edited by StudeRich; 10-31-2020, 11:32 PM.StudeRich
