Since Studebaker used Dodge beds on Champs, would a 58 - 60 Dodge tailgate bolt right in? I have not found a source of Studebaker 55" tail gates.

Of Course 1959 Studebaker Deluxes and '56-'58Transtars Were "C" Cabs, so no P2 Boxes.
Well maybe None EXCEPT this one we found in Boise, ID !
It has a '62 Champ 3/4 Ton Chassis with the Late and Rare Bendix Style, Starwheel adjusted Brakes like a Car on Steroids.Last edited by StudeRich; 08-25-2020, 04:44 PM.StudeRich

As for the fleetside Dodge tailgate, have you found a supplier for them? I assume that the Dodge fleetside and stepside bed tailgates are different... can anybody confirm?
A few years ago there was a company in Iowa making reproduction tailgates for the Champ, but I believe they quit offering them. I will see if I can get an update from them.sigpic

I did an extensive search yesterday. I found new reproduction P1 tailgates but nothing new for the P2, Dodge tailgate. I did see enough pictures of the gates on old Dodges to be confident that the P2 gate is identical to the one on 1960 Dodge Sweptline pickups. Many new replacement Dodge tailgates are available for the array of Dodge models, but I could not find one to match the 60 Sweptline aka P2.

OK...trying to be attentive to your request...Here is a link to an eBay store that offers all kinds of reproduction vintage truck bed parts including tailgates. http://www.ebay.com/usr/cstreet_supply
Searching thier "items for sale," shows that they produce parts for Chevy, Ford, and Dodge trucks. While some of them are stamped with logos, others are not. If you are willing to pay for the service, I would suggest contacting them and see if you can get them to custom make you the one you need going of the dimensions you provide to them.
One thing that strikes me about finding a used Dodge tailgate...I think I have seen more of those type beds on T-Cab Studebakers instead of Dodge's of the era. In fact, I can't recall the last time I've seen a Dodge truck that old on the road?John Clary

Shown is a 1960 Dodge with Sweptline bed. It appears that the tailgate is identical to the Champ tailgate (other than lettering of course). Is there so little demand for these that nobody makes them for either Dodge or Studebaker?
