One of my frame crossmembers is badly rusted at the bottom. All the other ones look good. Its the one towards the front of the bed. I'm guessing just driving around our little town at 35 mph, might not be critical. But I would like to repair it. How difficult is it to replace a crossmember? And can a person even find one?

    Thanks,
    Mike

You can grind or drill the rivets and either find rivets or use good bolts/nuts. The frame, from the front, to the rear they are referred to as #1 , #2 , # 3 , # 4 etc.

Do you have a better picture for reference?

I think the cross member in question is the one between the front attachment point of the rear leaf springs.

That is all covered by the bed - I bet any welder could throw something together for you that would work fine - the truck is probably not going to have 2000 lbs thrown in it on a weekly basis - or at least I hope not...

Does the one on your extra frame look decent? If I was back in Texas, I could have two or three that could be removed for you to have. Good luck.

This is the one on our extra frame that is bad. I didn't think about looking at the one on the pickup itself. Maybe its ok, and could use it. The extra frame is the one we plan to set the cab and bed on eventually. But you are right, not restoring the pickup to haul anything.

        Thanks,
        Mike

Thanks for the information on how the crossmembers are numbered.... I didn't know that.

Here is a better photo for reference.

          Mike

Well I tried to edit the photo before uploading, but it kept coming up small here. So its the crossmember on the right.

Thanks for the offer. If it was a shorter distance I would be interested, as I'm about 8 hours away.
