  • Engine: Liquid MOLY oil additive (has ceramic properties ) for eng and trans

Just wondering if anyone has tried or looked into such a product ( see subject line)
for old engines trans....or is such a additive on for New technology ?

I certainly used “MolySlip” in my ‘54 Chev 210 3-speed with great success. Quieter synchros and smoother shifting.

This and your LiquidMoly product all likely rely on MoS2 - a long proven friction-reducing additive.

I would not use it in an overdrive transmission because of the freewheeling sprag.

Thanks "oilnsteel" - you're absolutely right.

Yes, I should have qualified that. Only GL-1 (non-hypoid) 90W mineral gear oil is to be used n the B-W overdrives. It's not always easy to find but NAPA has it routinely, about $30 a gallon.

Mixing in other more modern gear oils will likely mean a complete teardown and wash-out - my last car was a '50 Willys VJ-3 and the same caution applied there too!

I used LiquiMoly 10W40 MOS2 engine oil a long time in my VW Eurovan (in Germany it calls VW T4) without any issues.
A good friend of me uses the LiquiMoly in his youngtimers. For the older cars, my 1955 President and his antique cars which are from the 1930's, we uses a 20W50 engine oil from a different brand.
I don't think it is a good idea to use a MOS2 based additive in a automatic transmission due to the fact, that the MOS2 reduces the friction within the transmission. Especially the brake bands needs as much friction as possible.
Within a manual transmission it probaly should work.
