  • A frame bushing seals

I am assembling my suspension A frames and the rubber grease seals want to squeze out when I tighten the bushings / grease caps. Yes, I have spread the outer ends about .015.I know they should have alittle crush to them, but not this much.Do I need to take alittle off the bushings? Any thoughts?
    Thanks!

Bill, if it's the upper outer pins you're talking about, one is probably squeezed while the other has a gap between the bushing and kingpin. You can fix this by rotating the pin with an Allen wrench like you're doing a caster/camber adjustment.

If it's the lower pin, that's another story.

OK If it's happening on the lower pin bushings, it has to do with the pin not being centered in the bushings. Since there is no provision for rotating the lower pins once they've been installed (they don't relate to alignment and are staked to the lower steering knuckle supports), the bushings must be tightened evenly during installation.

What I mean is, when you're installing them, tighten the bushings on each side, one wrench turn at a time, alternating sides. If you see that there is more space developing between pin and A-arm on one side than on the other as you torque them down, give an extra twist on the side that's long to even them up. this will center the pin between the two bushings and won't pinch the grease seals when they're finally torqued to spec.

This sure isn't in the manual, so how do I know it? Found out the hard way when rebuilding my front end! Pics posted at http://s132.photobucket.com/albums/q...%20Suspension/ if you want to see them.

        Good luck!
