  • Engine: 1967 Avanti II Carb / Intake / Heads

What Carb, intake and heads should be on a 1967 Avanti II. I have one coming home soon so I want to make sure it is legit.

Jon, talk to Jim Pepper about that. He'll get you the correct info. Bill

You can do a web search for Corvette engines of that year...a 327/300hp engine. If you have access to a copy, check the "Corvette Black Book"...it will give you every piece of information you need for that question.

When Avanti Motors bough Corvette engines, they may not have been complete with carburetors...in 1967 Avanti Motors was equipping their cars with Holley carbs...Chevrolet may still have been using Carter AFBs but I'm not sure of that.

If it's a 1967 327" 300hp engine, as per Avanti Motors specs, it should have 3890462 heads (or 3890461 if cast during 1966) and a R3605A, R3810A or R3814A Holley carburetor.

IIRC, the 300hp standard shift cars got the larger exhaust manifolds and pipes but the automatic transmissions came with smaller diameter.

Yes, according to a recent conversation with Don Simmons regarding an upgrade to my 70, he informed me that the 69 & earlier Avanti II's with 327/300 engines used a 2.5" exhaust ram horn manifold and exhaust system. I received a proper drivers side 2.5" head pipe and you would have to see it to believe it. In that he could put such a radical bend in that gauge of SS pipe that he works with. It fit like a charm... He has the templates for anything and does great work.

Just a quick note, When I bought my SS exhaust for my 83 Avanti from Don, the largest pipes he bent were 2 1/4" which he swedged larger to fit my 2 1/2" Ram Horn manifolds. Beautiful work and fit perfectly once I put it together correctly.
