  • Body / Glass: front end swap

    i got a 1948 chanpion convertible out of a feild, that needs total restoration.i want to go with resto rod,fatman independent front suspension modern engine & tranmission. i also found a 1950 starlight for parts.what i want to know if i can put the 1950 bullit nose on the 1948. a friend said he thought it would interchange, if any has done it or if it can be done i could use sone info. i need to know soon befor i buy the parts car. thanks

    I believe they will fit but some fabrication will be required. I've even seen a '50 front end on a '53 coupe, '56 "ish" pickup and an '87 El camino. None of them are direct bolt ons.

        Putting the bullet nose on an earlier car has been done numerous times by rodders. I used the fat man on my CE build. Feel free to pm me with any questions you might have.

          IF the 1950 is a Champion, you should be able to make it work with a little effort. I doubt that you could get a 1950 Commander front end/dog house on a 1948 Champion without major surgery.

          EDIT: Retain the convertible vibration dampeners/balance weights.

            Gary is correct about the 50 Champion sheet metal versus the Commander.
            I recently saw a nice resto-rod 47-49 convertible with 51 front fenders & grille, 50 bullet and 'mustache' and 52 headlight trim. It was the best parts of several years combined. The 52 headlights should bolt on to 50 champion fenders.
